An Introduction to My Ceremonies

Alex Clare - She/ Her

Hi there! I'm Alex.

I'm a celebrant, storyteller, people-person, former bar manager, and former registrar who's never quite lost her fascination with people's lives, loves, adventures, and wonderfully unexpected stories.

Looking back, I don't think my career has ever really been about jobs. It's always been about people.

For more than three decades I've worked in places where people gather, and in community pubs, live music venues, care settings, a registrar office, and now ceremonies.

Every chapter has taught me something about connection, community, and the stories we carry through life.

Today, through Rites and Roots, I create ceremonies that are warm, inclusive, thoughtful, and completely centred on the people in front of me.

No two ceremonies are ever quite the same.

Some are rich with stories, laughter and shared memories.

Some are simple, understated and focused on the promises being made.

Some embrace tradition wholeheartedly. Others take a less-travelled path.

Some borrow a little from both.

My role isn't to fit people into a particular style of ceremony.

It's to listen, understand what matters to them, and create something that feels authentic.

Sometimes that means telling the whole tale.

Sometimes it means letting a few carefully chosen words carry the moment.

Either way, the goal is always the same: to create a ceremony that feels genuine, meaningful and true to the people at its heart.

I'm also mindful of the environmental impact of the products I use. Any physical materials provided as part of my services are sourced from ethical and environmentally conscious suppliers wherever possible, including recycled and sustainably produced paper products.

I'm proudly LGBTQ+ affirming, neurodivergent-friendly, and committed to creating ceremonies where people feel safe, welcome, and free to be themselves.

Whoever you are. Whoever you love. Whatever you believe. However your brain works. There's space for you here.

I've never been particularly interested in putting people into neat little boxes.

Oh, and if your idea of a perfect ceremony happens to involve ancient traditions, folklore, family, Welsh culture, heavy metal, Dungeons & Dragons references, a windswept cliff top, or something nobody's attempted before, my response is usually the same:

"Brilliant. Tell me more."

If you're curious about the winding path that brought me to celebrancy, and the human behind the microphone, you can find out a little more over on my 'About Alex' page.

What I do...
'Ceremonies with heart, rooted in meaning'

The stories I love most aren't the perfect ones.

They're the ones filled with unexpected twists, questionable decisions, family stories that get better every time they're told, ridiculous in-jokes, acts of everyday kindness, and the people who somehow make life make sense.

Whether we're celebrating a wedding, welcoming a new arrival, marking a milestone, or saying goodbye to someone deeply loved, I believe life's meaningful moments deserve care, thought, and intention.

Sometimes that means telling a story.

Sometimes it means finding exactly the right words for a moment that feels too big for words at all.

Either way, it starts with listening.

Listening to who you are, what matters to you, and how you want this moment to feel.

There are no templates here. No generic scripts. No one-size-fits-all approach.

Just a ceremony shaped around the people at its heart.

Honest, meaningful, and unmistakably yours.

Ceremonies for Every Kind of Love

Big celebrations, tiny elopements, and everything in between.

There isn't one right way to have a ceremony.

There is only your way

Commitment and
Renewal of Vows

A celebration of the life you've built, the promises you're making, and the people who matter most.

Family Ceremonies

Marking life's milestones with care, warmth, and a healthy appreciation for the stories that bring us together.

Celebrations of Life and Funerals

Ceremonies that speak to the heart, not just the room.

Ceremony Enhancements

Here are some of the optional traditions and symbolic elements that I can facilitate as part of your ceremony. And if you're wondering, "Could we do this instead?"

the answer is usually, "Possibly! Tell me more..
